I am an experienced Relate trained counsellor now working in private practice.
Many of us experience difficulties managing our relationships. The inability to communicate effectively can considerably undermine the quality of our relationships. Poor communication can be difficult to manage alone and a trained relationship counsellor can help.
Your relationship struggles may not be confined to your intimate partner but may extend to the wider family, the workplace or indeed any social scene.
Our early relationships contribute to the way that we view the world and relate to others. Relationship difficulties (past or present) and other factors, can contribute to all manner of issues that might present in your life today, such as low self-confidence, stress, anxiety, insecurity, anger, depression, dependency upon drugs or alcohol or the use of other strategies for coping. These might serve as a distraction temporarily but generally fail to resolve the underlying issue and often bring further problems.
Counselling can enable you to understand your own and others' thoughts, feelings, needs and behaviours, leading to more pleasure, satisfaction, meaning and connectedness.
Most couples or individuals can benefit from talking to a trained counsellor. I can help you to work through your difficulties, whatever the goal, within a professional and safe environment.
I hold a University Advanced Counselling Diploma (psychodynamic and systemic training) with the Relate Institute/University of Hull and worked for Relate counselling couples and individuals for 9 years. Further, within Relate I worked for The Change Project and the Separated Parents' Information Programme, supporting couples around domestic abuse and managing the impact of conflict upon children with separated parents.
I am furthering my training to include PBSP therapy, a body-mind approach representing the coming together of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural and system-orientated principles, along with client-centred attitudes, in one integrated philosophy.
I am an experienced counsellor here to help and support you through difficult times.
I aim to provide a safe, caring, friendly and non-judgmental space, and through a combination of person-centred and psychodynamic techniques, seek to enable clients to reach a better understanding of themselves and others, and to discover their full potential.
Since 2004, I have had the privilege of working with both adults and young people exploring their thoughts, feelings, and beliefs - both past and present.
I strongly believe that warm, empathetic listening is the key to establishing a successful therapeutic relationship and enabling change to happen.
I have worked on both a long-term and short-term basis with clients on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, low mood, loss, self-harm, bereavement and family and relationship problems.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you would like to find out more about how counselling works and what it could offer you.
